Our Story
Kayo Ukai Bennett
Founder
Growing up in Tokyo as the fourth generation of a 130-year-old Shinise(in Japanese, means an"established shop"), Kayo has been frequently found helping her father cook in the kitchen. After graduating from high school, Kayo move to Vancouver and pursue her culinary passion, working at several restaurant.
In 2016, Kayo completed her training at the Pastry Training Centre of Vancouver and expanded her culinary passion and creative skills into the pastry world. After working as a pastry chef at several bakeries and restaurant, Kayo joined the acclaimed French patisserie, Ladurée, where she worked as an executive chef at Ladurée Vancouver, the very first Ladurée Boutique and tea salon in Canada, then later worked at Ladurée Toronto and The Vancouver Patisserie Lab.
With over 20 years' professional culinary experience, Kayo founded K'Atelier Kitchen and Workshop in 2021.

K'Atelier Kitchen and Workshop is where a group of highly skilled chefs with diverse backgrounds bring in unique ideas and flavours. Besides taking custom orders and hosting parties and weddings, K'Atelier bakes speciality breads, buns, cookies, and pastries for several restaurants across Vancouver. Also, K'Atelier's fresh baked goods can be found at Breakfast Table on Granville Street every Wednesday and Saturday for take-away.
K'Atelier occasionally hosts unique cooking workshop as well, such as Japanese Soba Noodle Making and Tempra 101.
